AB  - The investigation on the social construction of the schoolyard is an ethnographic 
study that relates to the social space, ranging through concepts like, symbolism, 
social identity and spatial appropriation, which give a theoretical frame of the idea 
of a socially constructed space. This research is modeled on the person -
environment line of study and revolves around the processes of social interaction 
that take place in the schoolyards of two educational institutions from the city of 
Palmira. The subsequent analysis is based on theoretical conceptualizations of the 
social space and on contributions made by environmental psychology
